Jake's Choice - Home Hi Davey! Sensible Soccer Lives!!!!

Yes, Sensible Soccer lives again, I'm an addict just like it was summer of '96. One button, diving headers, hanging heads after a red card, highlights automatically saved, what a game. Here's how to be playing Sensible Soccer on your windows computer in oh, 8-12 easy steps, with screenshots!
  1. Download the necessary file/s. They can all be found here in one big zip file. The file includes Steem, a tremendous and dependable Atari St emulator, a TOS image, and some game disk images. Unzip this file anywhere, it should unzip into a folder named "atari". Move the resulting folder somewhere permanent before you run Steem.exe. Program Files is fine.

  2. Go in to the "atari" folder and run Steem.exe. (Note: Once you get steem up and running, the pause/break button toggles between the emulator and windows.) The first run will set some file locations and put a shortcut in your start menu. Select the obvious choices, the only one that really matters is the TOS location, which is in the folder already.

  3. At the main screen, go to options (the wrench icon) and kick up the memory to 2 megs. Also a good idea is to set the screen sizes so the different resolutions are all the same display size.

  4. You're now ready to play Sensible Soccer! First off, you need a joystick. If it works, Steem will use it. (You may want to mess with the joystick settings, I set mine so that any button works.)

Open the disk options screen, and drag the "Sensoc1a.msa" file to the A drive box.

  5. Now start up the emulator by clicking on the yellow arrow. This will load disk 1. You can hit a joystick button now, or watch the whole intro if you like! This is why you need a joystick, by the way. Without one you never get to the screen asking for disk 2.

  6. Now hit the pause button, and go back to the disk manager, and drag the "Sensoc1b.msa" file to the A drive box.

  7. Now just listen to that great intro music! You can start playing right away if you like. I recommend full-screen mode. Use the normal windows maximize button to go to full-screen, and the pause button to toggle steem's window controls, where the upper right corner button gets you back to windows desktop. So go wild for a while...

  8. Might I suggest, however, that you create a disk snapshot in order to skip the disk loading steps. Stay in windowed mode for this. First, create a tournament or make whatever setup changes to Sensible you want. Next, hit the pause button, and save as a memory snapshot. To play from now on, run steem, and just load the snapshot.

  9. And that's it. I'd forgotten how to bend it, how to kick it extra long and deep, and other things as well. At first I could only beat Faeroe Isles. I'm now competing well with Romania, and may move up to Germany by winter. Wrist and elbow damage is as expected. Have fun.
